The History of MeasurementMeasurement is defining length , amount , size of someting that is measured. The idea of Universal Measurement System didn't exist till 18th century. Before the Universal Measurement System, different names for unit of Measurement were borrowed from human morphology. for example, the foot , the hand, etc. Industry and trade grew and expanded across the world, there was need for standard unit of measurement.
Unit of Length:Length has been proved to be one of the most useful unit of measuement to mankind. Example of unit of lengths are inch, foot, yard, miles, kilometers etc. In ancient times in the countries like mesopotamia and Egypt a rods were kept in public places like temples. And it was used as the standard unit of length.
Unit of Weight:Measuring weight wasn't easy , compared to length. Here also just like length, lumps of metals were kept in public places which represented the standard weight of a given amount of grains.
Unfortunately this didn't prove to be standard unit for measuring weight, because metals could be removed from a scale. Which could result giving an inaccurate reading of actual measurement. And also there was risk of scam.
